Solution architecture

  • The following figure shows the architecture used in the USD Solutions lab to do the testing.

    The architecture deployed consists of:

    • Dell R940 server 3TB of RAM, 20TB SSD storage, dual 100GbE Nics running ESXi 8.0. On this is running a Veeam Backup and Replication VM and two Veeam Proxy servers. Each of these servers is configured with 24 vCPUs, 64GB RAM, 350GB SSD disk storage and 100GbE Nics,
    • Object storage provided by the EX3000d ECS storage array with 6 Nodes.
    • Networking provided by a Dell Z9332F-ON network switch and two ECS Connection Manager H3 40G.

    The Veeam backup server manages the backup jobs, which, in this example, backs up VMs from a vCenter Server. ECS can be used as the capacity tier for all Veeam backup sources—for example, database, file system, NAS share, and so on.
