Veeam Backup & Replication v11 introduced the capability to restore directly from the capacity tier (object store such as ECS).
To restore a VM from the object storage:
- In the Veeam management UI, select Home > Backups > Object Storage.
- Select a VM (or VMs) to be restored to the ESXi server.
- Select Restore entire VM.
This selection restores the VM and appends _restored to the VM name.
- Select Next.
- Select Restore to a new location….
- Click Next to restore to the same ESXi server.
- Accept the defaults until the Folder page is displayed.
- On the Folder page, click the VM folder name, and select Name.
- Select Add suffix to have _restored appended to the name for the restored VM, and click OK.
- Click through the defaults in the remaining pages.
The restore process is logged as follows:
- Click Close.
- In the vSphere Client UI for the ESXi server, verify that the VM has been restored.
Restore performance can be viewed in the ECS management UI.
