Restoring a VM from ECS

  • Veeam Backup & Replication v11 introduced the capability to restore directly from the capacity tier (object store such as ECS).

    To restore a VM from the object storage:

    1. In the Veeam management UI, select Home > Backups > Object Storage.
    1. Select a VM (or VMs) to be restored to the ESXi server.

    1. Select Restore entire VM.

    This selection restores the VM and appends _restored to the VM name.

    1. Select Next.

    1. Select Restore to a new location….
    1. Click Next to restore to the same ESXi server. 

    1. Accept the defaults until the Folder page is displayed.
    2. On the Folder page, click the VM folder name, and select Name.

    1. Select Add suffix to have _restored appended to the name for the restored VM, and click OK.

    1. Click through the defaults in the remaining pages.

    The restore process is logged as follows:

    1. Click Close.
    2. In the vSphere Client UI for the ESXi server, verify that the VM has been restored.

    Restore performance can be viewed in the ECS management UI.
