The following terms and abbreviations are used throughout this document.

CNCF | Cloud Native Computing Foundation – the organization responsible for maintaining upstream Kubernetes and its various specifications |
CPFS | Cloud Platform Foundation Software, often called the ACP Foundation |
CSI | Container Storage Interface |
CSM | Container Storage Module |
Dell SDS | Dell Software-defined Storage |
Hyperscaler | Any large public cloud service provider that can provide services such as compute and storage |
IaC | Infrastructure-as-Code is a cloud construct that uses declarative language to define an application or systems operating environment |
iDRAC | Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller |
Knative | Open-Source Enterprise-level solution to build Serverless and Event Driven Applications |
On-prem or on-premises | A locally deployed data center set of hardware components |
PowerFlex Gateway | The REST API endpoint service for PowerFlex versions prior to 4.0 |
PowerFlex Manager | The web user interface used for configuring and managing Dell SDS components, often called the Element Manager |
Protection Domain | A group of storage nodes that provide data isolation, security, and optimal performance |
PV | Persistent Volume (Kubernetes construct) |
PVC | Persistent Volume Claim (Kubernetes construct) |
RHEL | Red Hat Enterprise Linux |
SDC | Storage Data Client. The Dell Software-Defined Storage component installed on a node enabling access to block storage volumes |
SDS | Storage Data Server. The Dell Software-Defined Storage component that presents the local disks to the cluster for use in the storage pool |
Storage Pool | A group of disks within a Protection Domain which contribute capacity. Volumes are defined in an SP and volume data is distributed across all disks in the SP |
