Monitoring Azure Stack Hub overview

  • Configuring SNMP v3

    With Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) version 5.18, support for SNMP v3 has been enabled for 14G PowerEdge nodes with iDRAC firmware version 7.00.00.00.

    Perform the following steps to fully configure SNMP v3 for the iDRAC and SCG application.


    Configuring SNMP for the iDRACs

    1. Log in to the iDRAC using the iDRAC Administrator account.
    2. Go to iDRAC Settings > Users.
    3. Expand the Local Users menu.
    4. Select the iDRAC Administrator account and click Edit.
    5. On the User Configuration tab, scroll down to the Advanced Settings > SNMP v3 Settings section.
    6. Set the following SNMP v3 Settings:
      • SNMP v3 = Enabled
      • Authentication Type = SHA
      • Privacy Type = AES
      • Enable Passphrase = Disabled

    7. Click Save to close the menu.
    8. Click Ok on the Success message window.
    9. Go to Configuration > System Settings.
    10. Expand the Alert Configuration > Alerts > Alert Configuration menus.
    11. Verify that the Alerts button is enabled.
    12. Enable the SNMP Trap and Redfish Event top-level alerts by clicking the checkboxes.

    13. Scroll down and click the Apply button.
    14. Click Ok on the Success message window.
    15. Expand the Alerts Configuration > SNMP Traps Configuration menus.
    16. Verify that the correct Alert Destinations are configured with the iDRAC Administrator account set as the SNMPv3 user:
      • Alert Destination 1 = <ERCS Endpoint 1 IP Address ending in .224>
      • Alert Destination 2 = <ERCS Endpoint 2 IP Address ending in .225>
      • Alert Destination 3 = <ERCS Endpoint 3 IP Address ending in .226>
      • Alert Destination 4 = <Dell MGMT-VM IP Address>
      Note: The order of which IP addresses are entered into the Alert Destinations menu does not matter. See Privileged Endpoint IP addresses for steps on how to obtain the ERCS / Privileged Endpoint IP addresses from the Administrator Portal.

    17. Click Apply to save the settings.
    18. Click Ok on the Success message window.
    19. Scroll down to the SNMP settings section and set the trap format to SNMPv3.

    Configuring SNMP v3 for the Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) application

    1. Log in to the SCG application using an administrator account from the Dell MGMT-VM.
    2. Go to Settings > Environment configuration.
    3. Scroll down to the Gateway configuration section and expand the SNMP v3 settings menu.
    4. Click the checkbox for Enable SNMP v3.
    5. Provide the account details for the iDRAC Administrator account that has SNMP v3 enabled.
      • Username = <iDRAC Administrator account username>
      • Security level = Authentication without privacy
      • Authentication type = SHA
      • Authentication password = <iDRAC Administrator account password>

    6. Click Apply to save the SNMP v3 settings.
