The solution design supports multiple storage technologies.
- VMware vSAN
- Dell PowerScale
vSAN for VM local disks
The VxRail cluster is configured with vSAN datastores that provide local disk mapping for all the VMs running on the cluster. The vSAN storage was configured with a RAID 1 storage policy to provide fault tolerance for all the applications writing to vSAN storage. This protection level consumes more disk space than other available RAID options but provides better file access performance.
Storage for the operating system, and all local files, is hosted on vSAN disks. The Tier 1 drive for Milestone recorders is also using vSAN.
PowerScale
Dell PowerScale is a better choice for storing and retaining large volumes of video data on-premises that can match the needs of the customer. An A3000 PowerScale appliance was used in this design for the video stream archive. The PowerScale storage system must also be designed to process requests for historical video data retrieval during analysis with users of CV applications.
