This white paper describes how organizations with existing or new implementations of Milestone XProtect can extend the capabilities of their VMS running on the Dell Validated Design for Computer Vision with Surveillance Bridge .
The diagram above shows how the video sources are connected to one or more Milestone recording servers in the same configuration as shown in the Milestone architecture diagram. For this solution, we have also installed Surveillance Bridge from our partner Tiger Surveillance to extend our local vSAN volume with additional storage capacity provided by a volume configured on the PowerScale Scale-out NAS solution.
Clients use local premium disk storage for high performance. At the same time, policies work in the background to replicate and migrate infrequently accessed camera recordings to lower-cost storage tiers and release valuable space. The key advantages of Surveillance Bridge are:
- Surveillance Bridge dynamically tracks locally stored recordings.
- Active recordings are kept locally and accessed at full speed and low latency.
- Inactive recordings are migrated to lower-cost tiers, automatically or manually.
- Recordings can be retrieved on demand by users or applications.
- Tiny stub files are maintained and accessible within XProtect and File Explorer while the larger video files are stored on the expanded storage.
