The following diagram shows the various Milestone XProtect VMS system components with optional redundancy options that are required to deploy a fully distributed and highly scalable VMS. These applications and virtual machines require at least one instance of each for a functioning system.

In deployments where the loss of video recording capability cannot be tolerated, the management server and database server (SQL Server) should be configured for high availability. The Management client is needed for changing system configuration and more than one can be configured if needed.
