Server configuration is performed with YAML files on Bare Metal Orchestrator. These files are templates that contain configuration settings for an individual server or multiple servers. You can update the file with attributes that can trigger specific work flows like firmware updates, operating system deployment, and so forth. You can use the sample server .yaml files to create servers, update the required configurations, and apply them on the target server.
For more information about the supported configurations, see Managing server configurations.
You can perform the following operations on servers:
- Creating servers
Greenfield server deployment - facilitates the deployment of servers that are out from the factory with no existing services or workload. For more information, see Create a server or multiple servers and update configurations.
Brownfield server deployment - facilitates the migration of existing servers that were onboarded from a customer location and are now part of Bare Metal Orchestrator life cycle management. These servers are already operational and carry workloads or services. For information , see Onboarding brownfield servers.
- Editing, and deleting servers
- Viewing server inventory and hardware details
- Retrieve OS inventory. For more information, see Retrieve OS inventory.
- Reinitializing servers
- Monitoring the health, provisioning, and power status of servers
