The following prerequisites must be met before implementing KVM on PowerFlex. These prerequisites are meant to be high level as some tasks related to them are covered in the paper.
- Storage:
- If file is used, a PowerFlex system should be installed and configured with the File option (SDNAS). PowerFlex supports File in node pairs from 2 to 16.
- If block is used, the SDT package should be installed on each KVM node with network access to the PowerFlex system.
The type of PowerFlex system (such as appliance or custom node) is not critical to the solution.
- Dell servers with sufficient networking, memory, CPU, and storage to satisfy the requirements of a KVM shared storage cluster. Sizing varies greatly depending on the number of VMs needed and their purpose. Five servers are present in this paper’s configuration.
- Licenses must be obtained for PowerFlex and the Enterprise Linux distribution if applicable. For example, if Rocky is the selected Enterprise Linux OS, no additional licensing is required; however, if Red Hat is used, a subscription is needed. The oVirt node does not require licensing if that option is selected.
