This section describes the checks that you can perform before you report an issue with your SAP HANA XC HCI solution to SAP Support.
As part of the SAP HANA HCI certification requirements, SAP requires a method to detect if an SAP HANA VM is running in a hyperconverged environment. SAP HANA Studio and the SAP HANA Cockpit cannot report the hardware vendor and type when running under VMware, so it is important to report to SAP that SAP HANA is running on an SAP-certified Dell EMC XC HCI system.
One method to identify a certified XC node environment is to identify the ESXi host model names (physical BIOS names). The following model names are valid, certified Dell EMC XC nodes:
Look up the model name of the ESXi host in the Summary tab of the vSphere UI to identify the certified XC Family node.
Ensure that you report the ESXi host model name (physical BIOS name) from within each of the SAP HANA VMs. This requires setting the following VM option for all SAP HANA VMs:
SMBIOS.reflectHost=TRUE
To set this option on the VM:
This information is used by the SAP CIM provider and by support tools such as the sapsysinfo.sh script.
Note: The script "sapsysinfo.sh" provides a method for collecting Linux-relevant system information for SAP Support. This script is attached to SAP Note 618104: “sapsysinfo” – Compiling system information on Linux. Attach the file that is generated by "sapsysinfo.sh" script when you report an issue to SAP support.
