The SAP certification for SAP HANA on XC HCI limits the deployment to three production (full-socket) SAP HANA VMs per physical XC940 node and one (full-socket) SAP HANA VM for the XC740xd node. Sharing the socket that the Controller Virtual Machine (CVM) is using with a production SAP HANA VM is not permitted.
Note: This limitation does not apply to nonproduction SAP HANA VMs.
For nonproduction SAP HANA systems, you can allocate one SAP HANA VM with half a node socket. You can host three nonproduction SAP HANA VMs on the two-socket node and seven nonproduction SAP VMs on the four-socket node.
Figure 3 shows an XC Family cluster that is configured with five SAP HANA production VMs. Three SAP HANA production VMs are hosted on an XC940 node with one SAP HANA production VM per XC740xd node. Host affinity is set on each VM to comply with the configuration.
