New to PowerMax 2500 and 8500 platforms is converged emulation, with two new emulation instances: OR (Open Systems and RDF) and EM (EDS and IM emulations combined into a single executable).
In the pre-existing design of PowerMax, there is a one-to-one relationship between emulation and instance which limits the utilization of CPU and memory resources across different emulations.
With PowerMax 2500 and 8500 platforms, multiple emulations run on a single instance, which allows greater flexibility of sharing and optimizing resources among different connectivity types on the same SLIC.
With emulation convergence, support for multiple data protocols on a physical port is achieved.
