The following diagram shows the network architecture of this solution.
Figure 3. Network design of OpenShift cluster nodes/VMs, PowerFlex compute-only nodes, and PowerFlex storage-only nodes
At the physical layer, two Top of Rack (TOR) switches are deployed to provide redundancy and load-balancing. A peer link is configured on both the TOR switches. VLANs are created to separate different traffic types on the network bonds.
This section describes the networks configured on each of the PowerFlex compute-only node which are running on vSphere hypervisor.
Network type | VLAN ID | vSphere Distributed Switch | Distributed Port Group | Physical NIC | Description |
Ingress/API | 105 | dvswitch1 | Ingress/API | vmnic0 vmnic3 | This network is used:
|
PowerFlex Data1 | 151 | dvswitch2 | PowerFlex Data1 | vmnic1 | These networks are used for communication between the PowerFlex components and are assigned to two subnets on two different physical networks to provide native link fault tolerance and multipathing across the two assigned subnets. |
PowerFlex Data2 | 152 |
| PowerFlex Data2 | vmnic2
|
|
As shown in Table 2, networks are configured on each PowerFlex compute-only node by creating two vSphere distributed switches and Distributed Port Groups.
Note: Ingress/API/Hypervisor Management Network must be routable to the PowerFlex Management network to be able to access the PowerFlex storage-only cluster.
This section describes the network that is configured on each of the OpenShift control plane nodes which are deployed as Virtual Machines on vSphere hypervisor.
Network type | VLAN ID |
Ingress/API | 105 |
As shown in Table 3, Ingress/API network that is configured on each of the OpenShift control plane nodes use the same Distributed Port Group created on vSphere distributed switches.
This section describes the networks are configured on each of the OpenShift compute nodes which are deployed as Virtual Machines on vSphere hypervisor.
Network type | VLAN ID |
Ingress/API | 105 |
PowerFlex Data 1 | 151 |
PowerFlex Data 2 | 152 |
As shown in Table 4, networks configured on each of the OpenShift compute nodes use the same Distributed Port Groups that are created on vSphere Distributed switches.
Note: For more information about the networks that are configured on PowerFlex storage-only nodes, see the Network section in PowerFlex system design guide.
