The PowerStore data reduction feature includes zero detection, compression, and deduplication built into the core product. While the amount of reduction varies depending on the type of data, the system automatically selects the best option for reducing the data footprint.
Virtual desktops can vary greatly in data-reduction rates based on the type of VM pool. Linked clones (supported with Horizon 7 and earlier) have the lowest reduction ratio because of their inherent reduction. The pool is already compact because of the linking architecture.
Full clones have the largest reduction ratio of the pool types because they include many identical pages of data. Full clones have the highest impact on storage since they involve a larger data volume and require ongoing operating-system updates to all VMs.
