Spotlight search of network volumes (including PowerScale OneFS) is possible in macOS, but there are significant performance implications to consider. Each individual Apple client maintains its own local database of the network share. Having even a single Apple client update its index of a file system will degrade performance for all users until the index operation is complete. It is therefore recommended to disable Spotlight indexing of all network shares.
To verify the status of Spotlight search of the PowerScale OneFS volume, run the following terminal command from the Apple client:
mdutil -s /path/to/network/share/
