In typical EDA environments such as metadata intensive workloads, NFSv3 significantly improved performance over NFSv4.x.
NFSv3 is the ubiquitous protocol for clients accessing storage. This is due to the maturity of the protocol version, ease of implementation, and wide availability of client and server stacks. NFSv3 is widely adopted by EDA companies and recommended version to use.
NFSv4 introduced several enhanced features including improved security by using ACL. EDA company adopt both NFSv3 and NFSv4.x when the enhanced security features are required to secure company’s Intellectual Property (IP).
In general, NFSv3 is faster than NFSv4.x even though NFSv4 introduced some new feature to reduce protocol overheads.
