We configured this switch with 25 GbE for the public network and the vMotion network during the tests. Recently, the best practice of increasing the default Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) size of 1,500 to 9,000 (also called jumbo frames) was validated. Results showed that a larger MTU size of 9,000 reduced the time to vMotion the database. To learn more about this best practice, review Networking: Maximum Transmission Unity on the Dell Technologies InfoHub.
If Jumbo Frame is used, it is important to ensure that all devices on the same VLAN be configured with Jumbo Frames to function properly. In a SQL Server Cluster deployment, the private interconnect between nodes should be configured with Jumbo Frames.
