This section provides an overview of the logical architecture of the PowerFlex and PowerPath Migration Enabler deployed on an integrated multi-layered setup in the lab. PowerPath Migration Enabler is easy to deploy, manage, and maintain by PowerFlex/storage administrators.
The architecture has PowerFlex at the platform layer, ESXi hypervisor for server virtualization with VMware vSphere, and PowerMax as SAN/Legacy storage array.
PowerFlex 3.6.300 is built in the lab with three PowerFlex HCI nodes. The PowerFlex cluster is deployed on VMware vSphere 7.0 U2. PowerFlex SDS, MDM, and SDC components are installed on each of the HCI nodes. The SDS aggregates and serves as raw local storage in each node and shares that storage as a part of the PowerFlex cluster. A single protection domain is created from the drives on these HCI nodes. Then multiple storage pools are configured, and multiple volumes are carved out to meet the migration scenario requirements. The volumes are mapped directly to a virtual machine with Oracle Linux Server release 8.3 OS and SDC installed on the virtual machine.
