Fabric Notifications, when received, are logged to an internal PowerMax log, and can be retrieved using the following Solution Enabler (SE) command:
symsan -sid <PowerMax ID> list -fpin
The user can also append “-v” to the command for additional information. Figure 4 below shows sample output from this command:
In this example, a Peer Congestion notification using the SCSI / Fibre Channel protocol (denoted by the “FP” flags) was received on Wednesday December 6th by PowerMax director OR-04C port 0. The switch port WWN is 201cd81fcc81d98e. The end-device experiencing the event has a WWN of 50000972100afc03 with an FC ID of 0x061C00.
PowerMax will also pass the Fabric Notification to Unisphere. Figure 5 below shows a peer congestion event in the Unisphere Alerts page:
Figure 6 shows additional information (including the Attach and Detect WWNs) for the same notification in the FPIN tab of the Unisphere SAN Health page:
Additional initiator information can be obtained in Unisphere for WWNs included in Fabric Notifications. See Figure 7 below for a screenshot of the Initiators view in Unisphere.
