The Dell ECS Object Storage solution provides support for various APIs, not only for object storage (such as Amazon S3 and OpenStack Swift), but also for API driven management for configuration, monitoring, and reporting.
To facilitate easy consumption of the various APIs, Dell provides three API ‘collections’ that are packaged and importable into an API utility called Postman.
Postman provides an easy-to-use interface for issuing API commands against the ECS appliance. The collections of API commands provide examples of issued commands and the returned results.
Collections can be downloaded and imported into Postman, instantly providing the available API commands in a ready-to-use format. Each collection contains collection-wide variables to set items specific to your ECS environment (such as ECS Node IP addresses, ECS Management User, ECS Object User, and ECS Bucket name). Some commands require supporting ‘payload’ files in a specific XML or JSON format.
Each collection also contains the necessary payload files with example formats to follow.
This document focuses on the ECS Management REST API feature of ECS and how to use Postman and the associated API collection to set up the environment and start issuing commands against ECS.
The other API collections, Influx DB APIs and S3 APIs, are not part of the scope of this document, though the process to import and configure the collection variables follows the same steps.
