Dell solutions for SAP are designed to deliver the level of performance, scale, and reliability that is required for mission-critical business processes. Benefits that these solutions provide include:
- Scale-up with two-socket granularity for maximum flexibility: When capacity must be increased, it is not necessary to invest in a new blade chassis. S5000 Series servers are built around a 2U two-socket compute module with up to 56 cores and 3 TB of DRAM memory (or 4.5 TB of Optane memory). This flexible architecture permits the assembly of three to eight modules for 16 sockets thanks to two types of interconnects. An Intel “glueless” (non-node-controller) interconnect for three or four modules allows for a glueless topology of up to eight-sockets, with up to three Ultra Path interconnect (UPI) links per processor. For larger configurations, an eXternal Node Controller (XNC) technology is used for scalability from eight to sixteen sockets. A connecting box, which is a column that assembles modules in a single server on the rear side with no apparent cabling, makes reconfiguration and scaling simple. Further, each compute module can be extracted from the server for easy maintenance.
- Virtualization: S5000 Series server solutions are certified for a virtualized SAP HANA implementation. Virtualization provides a more economical application development environment and streamlines promotion to deploy in production environments.
- Reliability, availability, and serviceability: In demanding SAP HANA TDI environments, the S5000 Series offers a unique level of reliability and availability, with several thousand control points per rack and early warning features that anticipate potential failures and simplify preventative maintenance. In addition to the existing Intel® reliability, availability, and serviceability features, these servers include several innovative memory protection features. This combination of features makes the S5000 Series an ideal scale-up platform for in-memory computing.
- Business continuance and availability: SAP landscapes include many separate business-critical modules that interact and communicate with critical cross-dependent data. Every complex business IT landscape includes not only many SAP systems, but also many non-SAP systems that feed SAP, receive data from SAP, or are critical stand-alone systems.
Ensuring the availability of systems for the business processes that depend on these systems requires a comprehensive approach to business continuity planning and execution. In a disaster, true cross-database, cross-business system recovery is required for a single point in time, in contrast to recovering many individual databases separately.
- Documentation: Dell solutions for SAP provide extensive documentation to enable successful deployment of HA clustering and mission-critical disaster recovery (DR) solutions. These solutions are validated end to end in the following Dell Validated Design documents, which include recommendations to enable repeatable and efficient deployments:
- A single point of contact: Dell Technologies offers a single source for all Dell components of the SAP HANA solution.
