Using SAP HANA in TDI deployments with the PowerVault ME5, a new gold standard for entry-level storage arrays, provides many benefits, including high-end storage for small-to-midsized businesses as well as robust, flexible connectivity and scalable capacity.
SAP has certified the PowerVault ME5 Series for use in SAP HANA installations on both production and nonproduction systems and on scale-up and scale-out systems.
In tests with SAP HANA on the PowerVault ME5 storage systems, Dell engineering observed that:
Dell Technologies recommends PowerVault ME5024 or ME5084 storage for SAP HANA using SSDs in a single parity (single tolerance R5) storage configuration. ADAPT and RAID 6 configurations can have a significant impact on SAP HANA scalability performance as compared to RAID 5, so expect a reduced SAP HANA scalability node count of approximately 40 percent to meet the SAP HANA KPIs.
PowerVault virtual storage (the system default) is recommended for most environments. Virtual storage can support thin provisioning, tiering, replication, and many other features that are not available with linear configurations.
