As shown in the following figure, PowerVault ME5 controllers have different options and supported protocols:
The following figure shows a rear view of a PowerVault ME5 dual controller 2U array and includes top and bottom storage controllers. Each controller has a management port, four front-end ports, and a 12 Gb SAS expansion port. For information about other hardware options, see the PowerVault ME5 product page on the Dell Technologies website.
The following figure shows a front-end view of the ME5 ports 16/32 Gb FC controller:
Dell engineering certified the PowerVault ME5 systems using ME5 four-port 16/23 FC controllers for running SAP HANA.
PowerVault ME5 FC ports support autonegotiation of speeds from 32 Gb to 16 Gb FC. This speed depends on the SFP that is used and the switchport or HBA that is connected. Because higher speeds allow for greater MBPS and IOPS capabilities, use the highest speed that is supported by the environment.
PowerVault ME5 storage supports SSD Mixed-Use (MU) and Read Intensive (RI) drives, 10K SAS 2.5-in. drives, and 7.2 N SAS 3.5-in. drives.
