A PowerStore cluster combines multiple PowerStore appliances into a single grouping that is managed as a single storage system. A cluster delivers aggregate performance from all appliances in the cluster, although a single volume is serviced by one appliance only at any given time. Although not required, Dell Technologies recommends using appliances with the same model number and similar physical capacities to provide consistent performance across the cluster—for example, a PowerStore cluster might consist of four PowerStore 9200T models or four PowerStore 5200T models. Note that PowerStore 3200T and PowerStore 3200Q models can be mixed within the same cluster.
Volumes can be migrated between appliances in a PowerStore cluster. Dell Technologies recommends that:
Clustering is used for block storage resources only. While a PowerStore T model in unified mode can serve as the primary appliance in the cluster, the file resources cannot migrate to a different appliance. When deploying multiple appliances for file access, plan to have multiple clusters. For more information about unified deployment for PowerStore T models, see Dell PowerStore: Introduction to the Platform.
