SAP HANA is an in-memory database and application platform that provides high-performance analytics and real-time data processing. SAP HANA runs on physical servers or virtual servers and can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud. Organizations use SAP HANA to analyze large volumes of data and develop and deploy applications in real time. This solution uses SAP HANA in a tailored data center integration (TDI) deployment scenario on SAP HANA-certified Dell PowerFlex File enterprise storage systems.
Dell PowerFlex is an engineered system with automated end-to-end life cycle management using PowerFlex Manager. The PowerFlex File solution on the PowerFlex rack is highly scalable, efficient, performance-focused, and flexible. PowerFlex File has a rich feature set and mature architecture to support a wide array of use cases. PowerFlex File uses containerized NAS servers to enable access to file systems, provides data separation, and acts as the basis for multitenancy. PowerFlex File services are accessible through a wide range of protocols and can take advantage of advanced protocol features.
The configuration recommendations in this guide are based on two SAP requirements: high availability (HA) and meeting the performance test results for SAP HANA TDI key performance indicators (KPIs). This guide shows that PowerFlex systems meet and exceed the SAP HANA performance and functional requirements for deployment in existing data center infrastructures. See Validation testing for details.
This Dell solution for SAP HANA TDI deployments with PowerFlex File systems reduces hardware and operational costs for customers. The solution lowers risks by integrating SAP HANA into existing data center operational processes and increases server and network vendor flexibility for customers. Customers can:
This guide describes an SAP HANA TDI deployment on PowerFlex File systems. The guide provides configuration recommendations for deployment that are based on SAP HA requirements and KPIs for data throughput and latency. Topics include:
Note: This design guide describes SAP HANA TDI deployments in physical environments. If you plan to use SAP HANA in virtualized environments on VMware vSphere, see the VMware Virtualized SAP HANA with Dell Storage Solution Guide.
