Dell Unity Virtual Storage Appliance (Dell UnityVSA) is a unified software-defined storage (SDS) solution that runs on the VMware ESXi platform. Dell UnityVSA is a flexible storage option for environments that do not require dedicated storage systems such as test/development or remote office/branch office (ROBO) environments. Users can quickly provision a Dell UnityVSA solution on general-purpose server hardware, which can result in reduced infrastructure costs and a quicker rate of deployment.
In Dell Unity OE version 4.5 and later, Dell UnityVSA HA is available. UnityVSA HA is an enhanced version of the single-SP UnityVSA solution. This is accomplished by adding high availability (HA) functionality whereby Dell UnityVSA HA can recover from an SP or host failure. This significantly increases the system’s applicable use-case scenarios, and enables non-disruptive upgrades (NDU). Dell UnityVSA Dual-SP is only available with Professional Edition (PE) licenses in capacity choices of 50 TB or 350 TB options.
For more information about Dell UnityVSA and UnityVSA HA solutions, see the Dell UnityVSA white paper, available on the Dell Support website.
