Windows and macOS both support SMB multichannel, but SMB multichannel is more mature in Windows. SMB multichannel allows for Windows to spread Ethernet traffic between multiple NICs and open multiple TCP sockets between the client and storage.
For Resolve workflows, SMB multichannel should be implemented between the Windows Resolve client and PowerScale storage. There are Windows PowerShell commands to verify and interact with SMB multichannel configuration:
Get-SMBMultiChannelConnection
In the above example, the client system has two NIC ports connected to the network. Those ports are assigned IP addresses 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.11. Windows has established connections to both NICs on the PowerScale nodes (192.168.1.104, 192.168.1.101). Windows does a good job of configuring this behavior automatically, but there are further PowerShell commands for restricting SMB multichannel to particular interfaces. Consult Windows documentation for more detail.
SMB multichannel is separate from Ethernet link aggregation (LACP). LACP is an entirely different topic and beyond the scope of this paper. LACP is primarily for fault tolerance while SMB multichannel does a better job at increasing overall network throughput between a storage server and a single client.
