DaVinci Resolve is used for challenging workflows involving high throughput media. Having plenty of network bandwidth between the PowerScale storage and the client systems is important for supporting playback. At minimum, the PowerScale node should be connected to the production network using 25 GbE, with 100 GbE being preferred.
The same holds true for the clients connecting to the storage. At the least, the client should have a 10GbE connection to the production network with higher speeds preferred. A powerful Linux Resolve workstation connected using 100 GbE to an NVMe based PowerScale F900 can sustain multiple streams of 8K uncompressed video playback.
Large amounts of network retransmits will have an adverse impact on DaVinci Resolve playback. Checking for retransmits on the client system and PowerScale nodes is a good first step in environment optimization. Any number of factors can cause network retransmits. Identifying that there are networking problems helps inform a more throughout deep dive into the environment.
