The goal to increasing availability for SQL Server applications is to reduce the chances that applications will be disconnected from SQL Server. SQL Server host restarts, SQL Server FCI cluster failover, and Always On availability group failovers will cause the client application to disconnect and reconnect. Usually failover causes an interruption, error message, or outage to the application and should be avoided if possible. In this section, we will look at some basic configurations and use cases with PowerStore to increase availability for SQL Server.
