PowerStore volume groups, Storage array snapshots, and thin clones are controlled, managed, and processed by PowerStore and not by metro node. Therefore, if metro node is integrated with PowerStore, and snapshots or thin clones are required, the snapshot or thin clone must be created and managed by a PowerStore interface or with AppSync. AppSync is described in the next section.
The requirements of creating and using PowerStore snapshots in an Oracle environment do not change when PowerStore metro node is used. For volume group, snapshot, and thin clone usage and requirements in an Oracle environment, see PowerStore: Oracle Database Best Practices.
If metro node is protecting a PowerStore environment, and a PowerStore snapshot is to be used to restore or recover an environment, thin clone volumes must be created for the volumes in the snapshot. Then, the thin clone volumes exist on both underlying arrays and then must be exposed to metro node. Metro node must then create virtual volumes of the thin clone volumes and expose them to the database server. The process of provisioning thin clone volumes in metro node is the same as described in the section Provision PowerStore volumes for metro node and Oracle ASM through the section Host and Linux configuration.
