Metro node provides simplified management and nondisruptive data mobility between arrays located in the same data center (metro node Local configuration) or across campus or metro regions (metro node Metro configuration). Metro node is a virtual storage technology that provides three layers of logical abstraction to traditional array storage. This abstraction creates virtual volumes that are presented to Oracle database servers and enables mission-critical applications to remain up and running during planned and unplanned downtime scenarios.
Metro node is supported with all PowerStore models. Information about support for additional arrays can be found in the Dell Simple Support Matrix for the metro node appliance, available on Dell Online Support. See References for more information.
Because metro node provides a level of storage abstraction between a server and the underlying PowerStore storage, best practices for Oracle on PowerStore storage are used for Oracle on PowerStore metro node.
Unisphere for Metro node is a single pane of glass web UI for managing metro node and is the primary management tool for metro node configuration and administration (see Figure 5 for Unisphere in a metro node Local configuration and Figure 6 in a Metro configuration). Both metro node and PowerStore platforms also have an Ansible, CLI interface and REST API for administrators who want to automate management tasks. For more information, see References.
Installing the PowerStore metro node appliance is out of scope for this document. For information about installing PowerStore metro node, see References.
