After a matching pair of metro node storage volumes have an identical extent created on them, create a metro node device using the extents from each of the matching storage volumes. When creating the device, specify RAID 1 between the two extents. This mirroring provides Oracle with highly available storage, with zero data loss and no application outage if one of the PowerStore arrays experiences either a planned or unplanned outage.

In Unisphere for metro node, repeat the following steps for the metro node extents created in the previous step.
- Set the provisioning context in metro node (see Setting metro node Local provisioning context).
- Set drop-down field View By to Devices.
- Click CREATE to open the Create Devices wizard.
- The Create Devices wizard will prompt for the type of device to create. To provide highly available storage for Oracle, click RAID-1.
- Click NEXT.
- The wizard prompts for extents to mirror. For the Source Extent, select the extent that resides on the metro node storage volume being served by the main PowerStore array of the metro node cluster.
- Metro node repopulates the extents in the target extent window. In the Target Extent window, click the corresponding extent residing on the matching paired metro node storage volume on the other PowerStore array.
- Click ADD DEVICE.
- Click the device name and change it to meaningful name.
- Click NEXT.
- Click No when the wizard asks Automatically create a virtual volume on each device? Selecting No allows for the LUN ID of the virtual volume to be manually entered. Manually set the LUN ID of the metro node virtual volume to the same LUN ID used to expose the PowerStore storage volume to metro node. This provides the administrator the control of and the option to adopt a standard of consistent LUN ID assignments in PowerStore storage volumes, metro node virtual volumes, and Linux volumes.
- Click NEXT.
- Review the create device request.
- Click FINISH.
- Review the status from creating the local metro node device.
- Click CLOSE.
- Repeat these steps if there are other metro node devices to be created.
