To provide business continuity, Oracle relies on dependable and consistent storage connectivity between database servers and storage. The loss of storage or storage connectivity would be catastrophic for applications running on Oracle. Several Oracle tools and architectures can be deployed to protect from such events, but the solution may not be applicable or affordable in all environments.
Virtualizing the storage behind Oracle with PowerStore metro node can eliminate storage outages, reduce total cost of ownership, reduce complexity, and simplify managing the Oracle environment.
One example of reducing complexity is deploying a metro node Metro configuration with Oracle RAC Standalone Cluster instead of deploying Oracle RAC Extended Distance Clusters. With metro node Metro, there is no requirement to configure an Oracle RAC Extended Distance Cluster and the required ASM failure groups between the clustered nodes. Metro node Metro configuration performs the necessary mirroring. Therefore, an Oracle RAC Standalone Cluster in a Metro configuration has device mirroring without the additional configuration and complexity of Oracle RAC Extended Distance Cluster.
