The Container Storage Interface (CSI) is a standard specification for a consistent, plugin-based API for Kubernetes. With CSI, storage providers can write a single, standardized plugin that can be used across multiple platforms. Dell provides CSI compliant drivers for storage platforms including Dell PowerStore, Dell Unity, Dell PowerMax, Dell PowerFlex, and Dell PowerScale.
Dell Technologies offers all its CSI drivers as open-source software, making the software, source code, and documentation freely available on Dell Technologies GitHub repositories.
Dell PowerStore CSI driver enables dynamic provisioning, management, and scaling of PowerStore storage resources in Kubernetes environments. Containers are inherently ephemeral and they are not designed to store data permanently. Many containerized workloads, such as databases, often need long-term data storage. This data must also remain accessible as containers move between Kubernetes nodes. Using the Dell PowerStore CSI driver, container applications can effortlessly request and mount storage from PowerStore systems as part of an automated workflow. Even after removing the containers, the data stays on the PowerStore systems, available for future access by other containers. Customers also gain the advantage of Dell storage systems' advanced data protection and reduction features.
