Port groups consist of a grouping of front-end ports that make storage volumes accessible to a host or cluster. Ports can be Fibre Channel, iSCSI, or NVMeOF protocols on PowerMax 2000 and 8000 arrays. All ports in a port group must use the same transport protocol. Multiple hosts can share the same ports, but they will only be able to access volumes assigned through masking views.
Best Practice: A port group should have a minimum of two ports on different PowerMax directors for redundancy.
The full YAML code for creating a port group is in the Ansible-doc here on GitHub. The variables being passed in the example shown in Figure 9 are here.
Note: Zoning for Fibre Channel or routing for IP connectivity of iSCSI must be in place for storage volumes to be made visible to a host or cluster. Running operating system level commands might also be required to rescan for new storage devices, but this is beyond the scope of this white paper.
