Snapshots and clones can be taken directly from R1 and R2 volumes in all SRDF modes. Storage Groups being snapped or cloned cannot contain both SRDF and non-SRDF devices.
Snapshots and clones can be used to restore data to R1 and R2 volumes, though the SRDF modes and states have more of an implication on the feature interoperability.
SRDF volumes can also be used as linked targets and clones. Linking an R1 to a snapshot initiates a full SRDF copy to the remote array. Relinking an R1 propagates the differential changes to the remote array. Using the -remote option when linking or relinking an R1 allows SRDF to remain active and automatically propagates the target data to the remote array. SRDF sync can be initiated separately if the -remote option is not used.
Initial establish of an R1 clone causes a full SRDF copy to the R2. Incremental establish of an R1 clone causes a differential SRDF copy to the R2. The SRDF sync needs to be initiated separately as clone does not support the -remote option.
Best practice: Consult the state tables in the SRDF and TimeFinder Solutions Enabler product guides available at dell.com/support for supported operations for the various combinations of SRDF and TimeFinder mode and states.
