Interoperability between SnapVX and Clone is supported as a short-term solution while transitioning from one mode to another, and to provide an application the benefits of the various options. For example, a database protected by SnapVX snapshots can also be cloned.
Interoperability is not allowed when cascading sessions. For example, cannot take a snapshot of a Clone. Interoperability is also limited during restore operations. Clones cannot be created if a SnapVX snapshot is in a restore state, and SnapVX snapshots cannot be created if a Clone is in a restored state.
A SnapVX source volume that is also the source of a Clone session cannot be expanded.
Note: Cascading is not allowed between TimeFinder sessions and extent-based copies (Extent snap, VAAI, and ODX copies).
An application can have SnapVX snapshots, linked targets, and clones. An example of using all three options is as follows:
