Snapshot policies provide automated scheduling of SnapVX snapshots for Storage Groups using a highly available and flexible policy engine that runs internally on the storage array. Snapshot policies can be managed through Unisphere for PowerMax, REST API, and Solutions Enabler.
Each policy has customizable parameters specifying when to take snapshots (Recovery Point Objective or RPO) and how long to keep each snapshot. Compliance requirements specify alerts if policy rules are not being met. Multiple policies with differing schedules and retention periods can protect a single application. Each policy can protect many applications, including open systems and mainframe applications.
Snapshot policies provide reliable, orchestrated protection for applications. To satisfy on-demand requirements, administrators can take manual snapshots of applications that have policy snapshots.
Existing policy snapshots can be set as persistent to prevent termination by the policy parameters. A persistent snapshot is not automatically terminated until the user clears the persistent setting and the policy retention time has passed, or the user manually terminates the snapshot.
