A portion of cache is dedicated to snapshot metadata. Usage increases as SnapVX source devices are written to as there is more point-in-time data to manage. When this portion of cache is exhausted, new snapshots cannot be created, and existing nonsecure snapshots may begin to fail.
Unisphere reports snapshot metadata usage in the Snapshot Capacity page from the Capacity Dashboard. Snapshot Resources is the percentage of snapshot metadata consumed for the entire system. Snapshot Resources Used is the capacity used by snapshots as part of snapshot metadata capacity.
The System Alerts have the following threshold values by default:
Users can also choose to create custom alerts with specific threshold values:
Note: Other features such as Xcopy and ODX also use Replication Cache.
