Snapshots deltas
- Compressed source data remains compressed when becoming snapshot delta.
- Uncompressed source data may become compressed as it becomes snapshot delta or as it becomes less active.
- Read activity through a linked target may prevent an uncompressed delta from being compressed or may cause a compressed snapshot delta to be decompressed.
- Shared and nonshared snapshot deltas may be deduplicated with other volumes.
Linked target and clone data
- A linked target with data reduction enabled only effects data owned by the target.
- Data on linked targets and clones may be deduplicated with other volumes.
Best practice: Avoid changing the data reduction settings in between differential operations to prevent needless compression, decompression, or deduplication cycles. Data reduction is enabled by default on newly created Storage Groups.
