Apache CloudStack is an open-source cloud software platform which is designed to deploy networks of scalable virtual machines in an Infrastructure-as-a-Service environment. As an open-source product, the platform can be molded to suit the needs of the customer. CloudStack can also be used by businesses that want to provide their own private cloud and hybrid cloud services on-premises.
CloudStack includes a compute function that allocates virtual machines (VMs) to individual servers, a network function uses software-defined virtual routers to create and manage logical networks, object and block storage systems, an image management function and a cloud computing management interface that supports all the software stack components.
Service providers and enterprises can use CloudStack to spin up elastic cloud computing services in an on-demand mode. Rather than managing virtual machines in the same way as physical machines, with CloudStack, enterprises can offer self-service virtual machines to the users without involving the IT department. Service providers can sell self-service virtual machine instances, storage volumes, and networking configurations over the Internet.
Users can manage their cloud deployments through a command line interface (CLI), a RESTful API, or Web interface. CloudStack application program interface (API) is compatible with Amazon EC2 and supports Terraform and Kubernetes Cluster API providers to facilitate hybrid cloud deployments.
