For new installations of Commvault with ECS, S3 is the recommended protocol to use for data access. The Commvault implementation of S3 uses path-based addressing, so no DNS or ECS object-based URL modifications need to be made. MediaAgents can be configured to connect to ECS through its S3 API.
Note: Commvault recommends using multiple mount points to increase performance and reduce index sizes when you use the S3 protocol. For more information, see S3 performance Best Practices.
Note: When creating a cloud storage library, use the Dell EMC ECS (S3-compatible) instead of S3 Compatible Storage.
Note: Credentials Manager for S3 compatible storage libraries was introduced in Commvault SP17. This option allows you to create reusable credentials. For more information, see Creating a Cloud Storage Library.
