Disable the ECS retention extension property if using Object Lock. | ECS supported retention before the introduction of Object Lock. The extension is enabled by default and must be disabled if Object Lock is used. You can disable the extension on the Additional Settings tab of the MediaAgents:
Name: nCloudDellECSRetention Category: MediaAgent Type: Integer Value: 0 |
Monitor ECS capacity utilization. | Monitoring the capacity utilization of ECS is highly recommended. You can monitor the capacity utilization of storage pools and nodes as well as the entire VDC from the ECS Portal Monitor > Capacity Utilization page. |
Add SSD cache. | Adding an SSD cache layer to ECS will help ensure faster handling of object metadata. |
Plan for ECS garbage collection. | Plan for at least 30% of garbage overhead on ECS. Backups have a high “data rotation” profile; that is, the application writes and deletes a large amount of data. This high data rotation can increase unreclaimable garbage in ECS. Calculate this overhead when sizing the cluster. When chunks are at 50% utilization, open an SR with Dell Customer Service to investigate and adjust repo garbage collection cleaning. |
