In general, failure domains relate to a concept of engineering design that considers components in a solution that have a potential for failure. ECS software is automatically aware of which disks are in the same node and which nodes are in the same rack. To protect against the most failure scenarios, the ECS software is designed to use this information when writing data. ECS uses these basic guidelines of failure domains:
