Question: Can I order an EX300 for net new opportunities or node expansions?
No, all sales of the EX300 ended on July 11, 2022.
Question: When does support officially end for the EX300?
The last date for ProSupport maintenance and support services is July 31, 2027.
Question: What if I have an existing EX300 quote (or a quote that was waiting for RPQ switch approval)?
Re-quote this with a new ECS or ObjectScale configuration.
Question: Is there an equivalent or replacement for the EX300 12 x 1 TB configuration?
There is not an exact match for this configuration. Use the lowest drive capacity configuration supported by the EX500, which is 12 x 2 TB or ObjectScale. Keep in mind that there are no current plans to add 1 TB drive support to the EX500.
Question: What should I do for an existing Dell Centera customer with a small footprint who is looking to refresh to ECS?
Start with the minimum EX500 configuration of five 12 x 2 TB nodes. ECS is the best choice for customers to use for application refreshes from Centera.
Question: Can I do SSD and/or memory upgrades for the EX300 even though it is now EOL?
Yes. Customers can still add SSD drives and memory to existing clusters.
Question: How can I add/order memory to an existing EX300?
To add memory, submit an RPQ. For more details about this process, see this KB article (for Dell personnel only). The memory upgrades will be available without RPQ after the v3.8 release.
Question: How can I add/order SSDs to an existing EX300?
This ordering path is available in MyQuotes.
Question: Is there a minimum code level that the EX300 needs to be at in order to add an EX500?
Yes. The minimum code level is v3.5.
Question: What if I have EX300 with S5148 switches and expand with an EX500 that has S5248 switches?
This is now fully supported with ECS v3.5 and later, with no RPQ required.
Question: What if I am adding an EX500 to an existing EX300 that has upgraded memory of 192 GB?
You must upgrade memory to 192 GB in the new EX500 expansion nodes if this has already been done to the EX300.
Question: Can I put an EX500 into an existing EX300 rack?
Yes. You can expand an EX300 with the EX500 within the same rack. Keep the following requirements in mind:
Question: Do I need to be concerned about power requirements when adding EX500 into an existing EX300 rack?
The EX500 uses more power than the EX300. For details about updated power layouts (specifically for single phase), see this KB article. For single phase use, confirm the number of whips needed for the rack configuration. The EX300 maxes out at 4 whips, and the EX500 can require up to 6, so additional whips might be needed. No RPQ is required.
Question: What are the best practices for expanding an existing EX300 cluster with a new EX500 rack?
The best practices are as follows:
