The Copy to Cloud feature allows copying object data to an external S3 target. It is built on the ECS Sync open-source tool, which provides the capability to copy data in parallel. The Copy to Cloud feature only supports IAM accounts and IAM buckets. The data movement service uses an ECS Sync plugin to validate bucket access using the IAM service principal. The data movement engine executes periodically to read the data movement policy configuration and creates a data movement policy scan job for each policy. These scan jobs are distributed across the ECS nodes to scan its policy’s bucket and enumerate all candidate objects for data movement. It then submits all candidate objects to ECS Sync in batches. ECS Sync copies these objects from the source bucket to the target bucket and returns a result and status. The data movement service supports logging all operations to a log bucket when a log bucket is enabled.
The Copy to Cloud feature supports Dell ECS and Amazon S3 as the external S3 targets. Figure 1 shows the Copy to Cloud solution architecture.
