The Silly Little Oracle Benchmark (SLOB) tool is used to demonstrate the Oracle database performance on Dell APEX Block Storage for AWS. SLOB is a flexible benchmark tool that can generate a high-performance Oracle OLTP or DSS workloads that stress the storage subsystem using minimum host CPU resources.
The SLOB tests measured the database read and write I/O scalability along with scaling the number of concurrent SLOB sessions and the number of Oracle single instance databases. The slob.conf file controls the characteristic of Oracle benchmark such as concurrency level and ratio between reads and writes. The UPDATE_PCT parameter controls the percentage of SLOB operations that modify blocks of data. We ran multiple concurrent sessions running SQL SELECT statements to validate a read-only DSS workload, and the multiple concurrent sessions running SQL SELECT/UPDATE statements were run to validate the random OLTP read/write workload.
Note: Benchmark results are dependent on workload, specific application requirements, and system design implementation. All the performance data described in this guide obtained in a rigorously controlled environment. Relative system performance results obtained in other operating environments may vary significantly.
