MongoDB is classified as a NoSQL database software. It is a cross-platform document-oriented database with a powerful variety of data types. MongoDB uses JSON data structures with optional schemas. MongoDB can be used to store large sets of distributed data and has a schema-less data model.
MongoDB replica set creates multiple copies of the data for resiliency, and MongoDB sharding distributes large datasets across multiple systems to maintain high performance and fast data access.
