The following figure illustrates a logical view of the two-layer Dell APEX Block storage for AWS with DDVE using the DD BoostFS file system configuration in AWS:
Figure 14. PowerFlex with DDVE using BoostFS
Using the AWS CloudFormation template that is available from AWS Marketplace for DDVE, instantiate two m5.xlarge DDVE instances that are attached with Amazon EBS volumes as meta data disks. The DDVEs are placed in multiple AZs in an AWS region to provide redundancy using DD replication capabilities at the AWS regional level.
We have also used the m5.8xlarge DDVE instance to compare backup and restore performance for the 16TB License model (m5.xlarge is the default instance for the 16 TB model).
The backup host is an Amazon EC2 c5n.9xlarge instance type with Linux AMI where BoostFS is configured and mounted for backing PowerFlex volumes. The PowerFlex volumes are stored as a volume image copy in an Amazon S3 bucket.
