Home > Storage > ObjectScale and ECS > Product Documentation > Configuring IBM Spectrum Protect to use Dell ECS > Back up a client to Dell ECS
To back up a client to Dell ECS, start by creating a client on the IBM Spectrum Protect server. Select the Client icon in the Management GUI.
To define a backup client, in the GUI forms, provide the correct details for the new client:
Install the Spectrum Protect Backup client software on the client. Run the Spectrum Protect backup software.
Start backup software in GUI mode.
Click Backup.
In the folder dialog, select the top-level folder of the Windows File System that you want to back up.
Click BACKUP to back up. Record the statistics on the backup when they are displayed.
Using a utility such as S3 Browser, browse the ECS system to verify that the files have been written to the ECS cluster.
Using the Spectrum Protect Backup command line tool, restore the backed-up folder to a new location.
Use the ECS Management GUI to observe the read performance during the restore. (This was done with two clients restoring simultaneously.)
